Why We Need Your Help Now

Summers in La Paz are especially hard on abandoned puppies. Sterilization helps prevent their suffering.

Three 6-week old puppies abandoned under a bush in the desert in 90 degree heat and left to fend for themselves.

2 family dogs thrown from a car on the highway that chased desperately after their owner's car until they couldn't run anymore.

A small beloved neighborhood pet killed by a pack of roaming strays.

A mama dog desperately trying to feed her 7 puppies while starving herself.

These puppies are doing their best to survive in the desert heat.

This mama dog was left to try and raise her puppies as best she could. Fortunately a volunteer stepped in to foster them. Others are not so lucky.

These are just a few of the results of pet overpopulation that we've seen in and around our La Paz area neighborhoods in the past few weeks. It's tragic and terrible. And it's all preventable.

Campaign by campaign, neighborhood by neighborhood, Baja Dogs Sterilizations offers free sterilization surgeries to pet owners who are unable to take their dogs to a local vet for sterilization. We go into the neighborhoods that need us most. Our campaign attendees are amazing people who want what is best for their dogs.

They bring them in wagons and on motorbikes. They use simple ropes and electrical cords. for leashes. They wait, often with tears in their eyes, for their dogs to wake up from the sterilization surgeries.

Makeshift leashes and collars are often used to bring the dog to our sterilization campaigns.

We provide vouchers for in-office surgeries for those who couldn't bring their pets to the campaign. And we provide education to those who attend on the benefits of sterilization and responsible dog ownership.

But our campaigns are not free to us. Each surgery costs us around $30 USD, or $500 pesos, depending on the exchange rate. In addition, we provide campaign supplies including tents for shade, crates to hold dogs, cleaning supplies, leashes, collars, flea and tick medicine, and food for the volunteers. Our costs run between $4,000 and $5,000 USD per month.

Please consider a donation today to help us continue this important work. Help us break the cycle of suffering and abandonment by preventing unwanted litters being born. We are a 100% volunteer organization, so every donation goes toward supporting our campaigns.
